Went to the dealer today for a fuel leak at the injector lines and a sloppy idle when hot. They torqued down of the fuel lines and said the cross-over tubes would be needed if that did not fix it. Then they put the INSITE program on my under hood diagnostic connector and hooked it to a laptop. Man that thing would be handy. The computer did a cylinder check by shutting off different combonations of up to 4 cylinders at a time. It said all 6 of mine were within 3% of each other. He then shut off one at a time with puter and just listened to it. The sensors all agreed with each other on the important functions and he said the miss was not any thing they could find at the time and it was very slight and not to worry to much. I asked what else that thing could tell him.

He said that I had Burned 9127. 4 Gals of deisel

idled 432 hours

burned 153 gals while idleing

had a total of 3290 hours

had gone 94 MPH one time

The computer then graghed out how I use the truck. The tech said that I did not "gut" the truck or abuse it according to the graph. He told me most of my hard pulls were done between 1600 and 2200 where the motor is strongest. he said that people who abuse their trucks show a lot of hard pulls in the extreme low ( below 1000RPMs) or above 3K.

I wish I had this info to all the time. I figure the truck has gotten over 16. 75MPG and averaged 46. 5 MPH. I am also averaging just over 2. 75 gallons per hour. The MPG average is right where I guesed it should be and the MPH is much higher than the Duracrack runners are reporting. I also see that I am changing the oil at about 175 hour intrevals. Thats pretty short for something that runs in as clean as an eviroment as a pick-up.

yep i know what u mean about the program, we have 5 laptops loaded with insite PRO at my school. this is the best version and u can do about anything with it.

Wow, thats what I need done. I have a slight idle problem like yours and would like to know how my cylinders compare to each other. The only test I had done was one that measures fuel consumption of two cyls at a time, all combinations of two. I had some way out of tune and installed new injectors, but that did not help. I've removed sensors, put dielectric grease on every known underhood plug, biocide shots, etc etc but nothing helps.

I'm thought it might be the VP but have ruled that out till last. My last straw is going to be new fuel tubes, take off the HP lines and make sure they have clean ends, and are clean inside. I just hate the idea of having cyls not equal to the others. It seems to run fine except at idle. As soon as the foot feed is increased it does OK. I'm gonna get the tubes for $11 each and retorque the injector hold downs one more time. Im thinking about getting a wrench extension for the "unreachable" hold down bolts and calculate the torque reduction for the torque wrench that way I know they are both right.

The only other thing I can possible think of is using works heat sensor gun and see if all the cyls are running the same temp. Maybe I have a valve seal problem that will show a cooler cyl at idle when the miss is most noticable. I'm out of ideas.

my fuel injection teacher didn't tell us how much it was but i've hered prices around the ballpark of $800. 00 not bad if u use it every day. now the kicker is the new insite has a timed account when u get it. your subscription only lasts one full year and then the program will not work at all on the 361 day. so u donate another 800. 00 to cummins for another year.
