Today after driving home, went to shut down truck. Normally I just click the key back to run and the truck shuts down. However this morning when I did that, it was like it started to shutdown but then fired right back up. It was a very quick, shutoff start. Not sure how else to explain it.

anyone had this issue? Not really concerned with it cause the truck shut down.

My first impression is that there is a problem in the key cylinder.

Key "back to run" (i.e., "ON/RUN")? Or did you mean "back to "OFF"? And, once it started back up with the key in "OFF", did it continue to run? Might be a problem with the ignition switch itself.

Ok yes I meant back to off, it’s like I hit the detint between off and on/run and the truck wants to kick back on. If it happens again and more frequent I’ll dig into the ignition.

My 1970 Mustang had the ignition switch fail once. I would start it, release the key, it would quit, repeated several times. I finally realized the switch was returning thru run, all the way to off. The run detent had failed. I drove it several miles home with my left arm forward of the wheel holding the switch in the on position and steering with my right hand.

If it happens again and more frequent I’ll dig into the ignition.

Just be careful about touching off the airbag when you dig into it...
