The truck will be entering the time of year where it sits a lot. The camper is now stored away; there are only two more Boy Scout camping trips scheduled, and only one other trip planned until Christmas. Cold weather will be coming. It does not get really cold here, but we will have three months where highs will normally be between 25 degrees F and 40 degrees F and lows between 10 degrees F and 30 degree F. Colder temperatures are possible – one morning the thermometer said -13 degrees F. So, not real cold, but it definitely is winter.

We are planning a trip to West Virginia around Christmas – I think it is colder there.

I expect to change the oil again to get into the synthetic 5W40 for the cold weather.

Should I be adding an additive to the fuel? The truck will be sitting in the garage a lot. I assume I want to keep the tank full to minimize the possibility of condensation, but what else?

Finally, doesn’t every Cummins come with a heater element installed in the block? Don’t I just need to purchase a cord and run to the heater element in the block? I assume it would be good planning to be able to plug in the block heater.

Thanks!
