If you get the plow package on a 2500 auto, do you get the lower gears, 4. 10… And if so would that make more sense if doing occasional heavy towing. The automatic is an overdrive any way, right? What would the tach say at 70 mph.

Just wondering if this would allow the transmission to live a little longer since the automatics seem to give up for some. Don’t advise me to get the manual, wife will be in this one most of the time.

;)

no, the ratio and the snow plow group are seperate...

you can get either ratio with that group...

Unless you tow at max GCWR at least 75% of the time, I feel that the 4. 10 is overkill...

on the other hand, do you want to put those 285 or 315 series tires on that everyone is?

then 4. 10s would be great with that tire (tall)

for example, me, I wish I had 3. 55s, my 3. 73s are a bit wild (RPM) at 85 MPH

but anyway

There have been many posts on what gearing to get for towing, you can do a search of the forum. It seems to me that many advised to get the 4. 10 with the automatic.

At 70MPH you will be turning around 2150RPMs. I would not go with the 3. 73s with the auto, it might seem slow off the line. This is for a 3500 SRW that comes with the 265/70/17 tires. I am not sure if the 2500s come with the same size tires or not.
