Hello First Gener's!
My '92 W250 is currently in the body shop having it's driver side door replaced because it's loving owner bounced it off a tree while at the river. While it is in for this misfortune I had the body guys pull the fender, hood & cowl and install the "A" pillar reinforcements recommended under TSB 23-63-94 to correct for the irritating cowl rattle.
The TSB states the symptom/condition to be, "Cracking or popping sounds coming from the cowl area at the lower corners of the windshield. "
The kit consist of:
Cowl Reinforcement P/N 4797019 (left side - correct part number)
Or
Cowl reinforcement P/N 4797018 (right side - correct part number)
3/16" Structual rivets P/N 4746924 (3 req'd per side)
3M Panel Adhesive Compound 30
The reason I bring this up is that while I was at the shop staring at my half naked truck in disbelief, I noticed that there is also a spot welded 'lower fender support' that is sandwiched between the rear fender area and the door hinge pillar support that had cracked and is rattling. When I look at the small 'stress' cracks in the cowl area and compare them to this loose fender support, I'm certain that my rattle is coming from the broken fender support and not the cowl!
I just wanted to add this information to the original posting authored by "Wayne M" back on 01-15-2000 titled "cowl noise (body)". Thanks for the tip Wayne! I would also like to add that the part numbers are swapped on the left & right reinforcements on the TSB and that Wayne had included the correct part numbers as listed here. My shop has now ordered the wrong side reinforcement twice causing a week delay!
It's not all bad, I get to drive the former "Old School" truck more the longer the repair takes!... ... ... . Keeno
