Just wanted to know if anyone had painted their own pillar gauge mounts to match the interior or if you have it done. I talked with a local dealer and he said he wasn't sure if the interior paint that he sells would work or not. I need to find out because my gauges and pillar mount will be here today. Oo. Thanks.

Yes the interior paint that the dealer carries will work. It is a little pricey but one can will do an A-piller with some left over. You can also get the color code from the dealer and go to any automotive paint store. If you choose to not get it from the dealer remember that you will need some amount of gloss added to the paint to get a good match.

I used the stuff from the dealer. Scuffed the plastic a little with some super fine sand paper, wiped it with thinner let it dry then painted it. Not sure if this is the right way to do it but it worked fine for me.

I used SEM flexible interior paint from my local automotive paint store (aerosol). I think it was about twelve bucks, and they had a tan color that matched my interior perfectly.

All I did for prep is wipe it with urethane reducer to clean and soften the plastic, then sprayed it on. No problems in two years.

If you get it matched, ask for a computer color match and take your ashtray in with you. That way, it is matched exactly. Once, I bought some base coat for the wife's rig using the manuf. paint code. It was waaaay off from the color of the truck.

I almost bought a can of interior paint from the dealer to spray mine, but when I did a test shot, the color was waaay off.

So I ended up getting a can custom matched from a local automotive paint store. I did as me4osu did and took my ashtray in for matching the paint. That didn't work either! The lower dash is a slightly different color than the pillars! Finally got it right by taking the pillar trim off and matching to that.

I actually repainted both original pillars, including the passenger grab handle, along with the gauge pod. All is well after 3 years.

I used the factory paint. Agate (dark gray) interior color is part number 32201399.

It worked great. Fast drying, semi-gloss, color matched.

Preparation consisted of cleaning my a-pillar with a solvent, then spraying.
