Maybe this is a dumb question, but am I correct in assuming that a fairly hefty shaking is normal at shutdown? The truck shutters itself off rather violently (certainly much more so than a gasser!). I had assumed this was due to the high compression, but I just want to make sure everyone else's does this too.

To go along with that, do I need to hold the clutch pedal in when I turn off the key to help alleviate some of the mass that needs to be stopped? Normally I just shut down in neutral with the clutch pedal out.

Thanks!

shakes

Yup, it's normal. Mine does it so bad that it will shake the door on the hinges if it is open when I shut the truck off

You may also hear your accessory belt squeak during shutdown also from time to time. The engine shuts down faster than the accessories can, therefore making the belt squeak a bit. Normal.

That shake you describe is similar to mine on start up/ shut down. Interesting note- I was driving in one of our spring snow storms here when it was more slush than snow on the road. I did not realize how much of the slush embedded itself anywhere (and I mean EVERYWHERE!) and the it froze in place over night. It practically encased the exhaust lines and the vibrations upon shut down were unreal!. I thought something was very wrong with the CTD until I looked underneath. A trip to the car wash and $12. 00 in quarters of hot water took care of it.

Yep, normal. If you think these little guys shutter, you should see a full size cummins (855 cu in) when you cut it's fuel. Wouldn't want to have the door open. Might shake it off it's hinges.

After owning mine for four years I couldn't even tell but your right it does shut down rather abruptly, even still get the belt chirp once and awhile.

Yep, she shakes at shutdown like a dog passing peach pits. Even lets out a yelp from the accessory belt now and then because she doesn't want to quit working! ;) :D

When those big ole:eek: pistons, rods stop moving they make some co-motion. I was going to add something else about my *** life but I better keep my mouth:--) shut.
