I put mine in one of the test ports on the passenger side of the trans just above the edge of the pan. I was getting readings of about 150 deg. After reading the posts here, I found that the best place is in the line coming from the trans TC going to the oil cooler. I have a remote, spin on 10 micron hydraylic filter spliced into the rubber line going into the cooler, and it had a 1/8" port in the housing, so I put my probe there, and get readings in 165-175 range now. I also got an extra probe, and put it in the port on top of the engine oil filter housing, ran both probes through an "on-on" switch, & toggle to either, & use one gauge for both readings.

Dennis,

What kind of engine oil temp readings do you get? I am curious.

I had an engine oil temp gauge on a big block Cheby once and while towing it would scare you by the readings. It wouldn't take much for the temp to get way above 250 degrees on any kind of pull. I finally took it off so I couldn't see what it was doing!! I religously changed the oil every 3 thousand miles after seeing those readings!! It must haven't hurt the engine too bad because I put 238,000 miles on it and never had any engine problems.
