A very very slow striptease?

Had my truck since May 4, 2000. It's an 01 2500 and yes there are alot of rock chips. That I guess I'll have to live with. But man... I was getting into my truck the other day and looked at the driver side door sill. Lo and behold, the paint has been rubbed off. Since I don't use the sill to climb into the truck, it has to be worn off by me dragging my pant leg over when I get out. Thin paint or what?

Lets see, the truck is off the lot for about 4 months and I'm looking at bare metal. Even though this is a "high" wear area, I wonder if I'll be looking at a naked truck in a year or two given the amount of air friction from the driving I do.

Don't mind when the girlfriend does a slow striptease (actually it's quite pleasing and she's a fair bit quicker at it than the paint disappearing)but its a definate turnoff when the truck is doing its own kind of striptease!

Think there's a market for revealing pictures of "baring" sheet metal?

There are aftermarket plastic door sill protectors. 2 piece for each side if you have quad cab. I would reccomend covering the bare paint before installing as you don't want the sill rusting under the sill plates.

If you want to pay the price, DC also sells them in parts but they want an arm and left testical.

Pay the extra for the Dodge part its only a few bucks. The aftermarket set I bought first fit so bad on my Qcab I ended up buying the Dodge set also and junked the others

Thanks for the suggestions, think I'll probably go with a spray on bedliner application on the rocker panels etc (have the brochure somewhere, can't remember the name) that I've read about in other threads. They apparently spray the sills as well.

That would stop the strip on the bottom end.

Instead of buying door sill guards, I bought some non-skid tape made for stair steps and installed that in the door sills. Cheap, simple, fast, and very functional. Another idea: if you're having your bed and/or rocker panels sprayed with a urethane bedliner, have them spray the door sills.

I looked into having the sills Line-X'd or Rhino'd when I was getting estimates for the bed. They both said that due to the prep time (mostly masking off the door and open cab), I'd be looking at about $200 a side (!!). I'm thinking either the guards or the self-applied liner-in-a-can.

Maybe you'll get a better quote.

Just remember that line-x etc. is very abrasive. . do you want to rub holes in your shoes and pants . .
The door sill plates ihave fit perfectly and look good... had them in my 97 PSD never a problem. .

Check out Scott1's website, he has his sills done with Line-x, also did his rocker panels and fender lips. Saw it in person last Sunday, looks real sharp and doesnt seem too abrasive to the touch.

Turbo Horseman - My truck is three months old and today I waxed it. The paint SUCKS!!! Rockchips by the hundreds.
The next Dodge I buy I will order without paint. They have had paint problems for years!! Isn't DC paying attention. I know truck buyers are!

Has anyone had experience with paint
warranty??

Will they pay if I have it professionally repainted?

In all fairness I want to say I Love the rest of the Truck.

Spoke with my dealer's service guy. He says they don't cover that kind of paint disappearing under warranty.

You know, I really like the truck, best I've ever driven. Worst paint I've ever seen though. If someone was wavering over what truck to choose (Diesel or not), and everything else was equal for them, I'd be telling them to opt for the maker with the better paint job. For the average buyer, I think the quality of the paint job and the long term look of the truck (ie. repainting cost) could sway alot of people from DC trucks. Also receiving trucks from the factory that are too high without any additional factory protection only sets the paint up for "failure".

So its to the aftermarket we must go to correct (protect our trucks from) a manufacturing flaw.

Hmmm... that sounds like warranty coverage to me. It should be to you too DC!

Sorry to hear y'all are having paint problems! After hearing about how paint chipped so easy I had the rockers on my truck sprayed with Line-X. The door sills were also coated but with a roll or brush on Line-X material, much smoother than the spray on.

The cost of having the rocker panels and door sills Line-Xed on my truck was $400. 00.
I had the entire lower half up to the panel line below side molding and over the wheel wells coated. The black against bright silver metallic looks sharp!
