This is some information for those of you that use enclosed car haulers and have a AAA membership card in Southern or Northern California for roadside assistance. I have the membership card AAA Plus with RV/MC added. The advertisement that got me to sign up for the additional RV/MC assistance stated that it was for RV, trailers and motorcycles. The card reads "Nationwide Service". I tow a 24' enclosed car hauler. I usually use the trailer to haul my car if going out of state or really long distances. I had a flat tire 2 years ago on my way to Arizona, but was on the otherside of Desert Center and AAA guy came out and changed tire. Nice, didn't have to take car out of trailer in 111 degree heat, everything went well. End of last year I was in Pleananton (No. Cal. ) and had a tire go down. Call AAA and girl asks if my trailer has a toilet and running water - nope. Well your not covered then she says? I ended up changing it myself. So last week I got the renewal notice and decided to get the story. I found out that that I'm covered only in So Cal, where I seldom tow the car, here I drive it. If I'm in out of So Cal area I get no coverage. In fact the lady at the ACSC office wasn't sure that I'm even covered in So Cal because it's a trailer. There is nothing on their advertisement that clarifies trailer, and she admitted that. So if you have a motorhome or motorcycle, there is no issue. I would get clairfication on where the coverage area is, nationwide?? If you have a car hauler, your not covered. Ask questions and don't make assumptions like I did. Obviously I'm canceling the RV/MC portion and looking around for someone else that might cover me.

Now is there any roadside assistance programs that are nationwide and might cover the trailer? Would appreciate any info.

Here's a similiar AAA story of my own. Five years ago I bought my popup camper and promptly called AAA and was charged a modest fee for camper coverage. Everything was fine until I had to tow it in only to discover that I didn't have R. V. coverage for the popup. Why didn't anybody advise me at the time of my initial call upon purchase that I needed to upgrade the Auto Club coverage? It was a $28. 00 dollar difference that I would have gladly paid. My blunder ended up costing me $125. 00. AAA wouldn't even cover the cost of a basic tow without camper. I appealed the decision and was rejected via mail. Check out the fine print of your policy. Other than that AAA has been quite helpful in other situations

Well unlike you I paid the 27 bucks a year for the last 5 only to find out it isn't covered. Even after you read the fine print, ask questions. The part of your only covered in half of the state isn't contained anywhere. I don't think that ACSC was trying to screw me, its just that the information isn't very clear. I hope someone here has another roadside assistance program that is able to accomodate my kind of trailer.

Good Sam Roadside Assistance... Broke down with my '96 north of Flagstaff AZ. They towed truck and fifth wheel to a park in town, set the coach in a park of my choosing and towed the truck to the dealer. Had coverage for all vehicles in the household. No Problem...

I have RoadCare, Nation wide coverage. info 1-888-255-8546. I've never had to use it yet and hopefully I won't.

RColston: did you get a good shake down this afternoon? Since Yucaipa was the epicenter for that earthquake today.

RC, I was definitly going to check into GNS. Diesel Donuts, haven't heard of Roadside Care, so I'll be giving them a call too. Thanks guys for the info. Klaybus, thats what I was hoping to get out, don't make assumptions. I always thought that AAA was AAA, but when it seems to come to RV/MC coverage that might not be the case. It seems to be only the case when it comes to cars or the truck itself. I'm even calling back to see if the Plus covers the truck outside the So Cal area.

Good Sam ERS is my choice! ERS = Emergency Roadside Service

I had a nail in a trailer tire that I found at the end of the day (OKCity) and within 45 minutes a professional truck tire service was there, provided great service.

You do not have to be a member of Good Sam RV Club to join the ERS program. Once I experienced their service first hand, I took them up on a discounted extension of my coverage. By the way, the coverage is for all family members and all vehicles. Both of us keep the membership card with us, regardless of what we are driving or towing.

Check it out. All the folks on www.RV.net are very positive about Good Sams and the ERS service.

Diesel&Donuts--Yeah whole lotta shaken goin on. Been a SoCal resident most of my life though, so I'm thankful for the small ones. Maybe it keeps the bigguns in check. My experience with Good Sam as prev. said was all positive. I have something diferent now because I bought it (5yrs) through Altmans RV when I bought my Teton. Used it once with great service.

Would that be Coach-Net Emergency Road Service?

I used Good Sam ERS for years too. i now have Coach-Net through Lance, but fortunately, haven't needed/used it.

Rats! Those of you that have Sam's, RoadCare, etc. for roadside assistance as suggested above are covered for your 5er's, campers, etc. However, if it hauls animals, or is a utility trailer (of which my 24' carhauler they all classified as) is not covered. Everyone I really appreciate the numbers and suggestions. I haven't given up and will keep looking. In the meantime I just won't get any flats or breakdown :-laf .

Several years ago I called AAA to get a car unlocked in a hospital parking lot at 4 A. M. in the morning . They said they could notcome out until Monday morning . I had to fill the pulpit in the morning so the parking attendants went in through the back set into the trunk to get the keys out of a suitcase. This is just another example of them not living up to the AAA Plus agreement. I have been with Good Sams for the last 10 years and they have always come to either the truck or the travel trailer to help. Sometimes as many as three times in one month. Good Sams is the best that I know of.
