AAM 11.5" Fluid Level

I'm changing the rear axle lube, and I have a question concerning the fluid level. The owner's manual lists the level as 1/4" below the filll plug +/-1/4",which would allow a fluid level up to the fill plug. But, the cover is engraved with a mark indicating the fluid level approximately 5/8" below the fill plug. I have some rear avle whine, and I'm tempted to fill to the plug. What level have you used?

Amsoiled right to the plug .

I put 4 quarts in, which left it a bit below the fill hole (maybe 1/4 to 1/2 below). No problems yet.

I checked my axle, and it has a fill line, about 1/4 inch below the hole. was built early jan.

I topped mine off as soon as I could obtain some Mobile 1 75w-90. I like to run at the upper end of the spec.
