Steering Wheel woes:(

I bought one of these boxes a while back and never did get it to work. The box tested out ok but I never figured out how to hook it up correctly (which wires to hook where) and would appreciate the voice of experience.

Thanks
Keith

I have the Abbott EPRA and have gone through several different setups in order to get it to work correctly. I had to call the folks at Abbott to adjust the internal dip switches to get a strong enough signal so my ABS and brake lights would not come on. The wiring instructions on the label on top of the box are good and as far as the truck; I have the instructions I got from Rickson. I used different settings than those from Rickson with the help of Abbott. Call me at 800. 771. 9874 or e-mail me at sparker@directmarketingworks.com.

i'll assume from your post dowg that abbott has figured out the ABS problem ? another member is going to need to get his speedo corrected due to tire size change .

Another option is the new Superlift TruSpeed. Part #33002 for the Dodge. I put one on my truck to correct for the 36" tires. It is a four wire hookup and adjustable to within 1%. It has two settings in case you run two different sets of tires (winter/summer?) I paid 199 for mine a few weeks ago from a local 4 wheel drive shop.

I installed the unit per the directions that were are reprint from the TDR. I am thinking that they incorrectly stated the color of the tracer on the signal wire. It said the White with Purple tracer & Red with Blue tracer. I looked at the wire colors at the sensor (axle) and it looked to me more like the later was Red with Purple tracer (also seems to make more sense).

Also, I never us crimp connectors on any signal wire - too much resistance / inconsistency. I solder them, put a dab of silicone over the wires & heat shrink tubing over that (squeezes the silicone out and makes a water tight seal).

I also added an additional fuse block with a 30A relay for the ignition circuit (controlled from spare (16 I think) fuse in fuseblock). The ground goes directly to the battery terminal.

It looks like I will need one. Where does the Superlift 4-wire hook up?

The Superlift hookup is red to key on 12v, black to ground, green connects to the wire leading from the speed sensor (white/orange)and yellow connects to to this wire leading to the loom/computer. It just splices in and adjust the signal.

gary do you have ABS ?? can't remember , i had my head under your air filter , speaking of , got the part number for that pre filter you have ? thanks

I've had one of the Abbott E. R. A. s installed in my Ram for over 2. 5 years now. I have not had one single problem with it. In fact, Terrence of Abbott Enterprises had an engineer work up a new dip switch combination for me that later proved to be an exact correction value for my 285s.

Credit for the adaptation of the Abbott E. R. A. into our '98+ Dodge Rams goes to a fellow TDR member (Jim Alexander) that outlined the installation of this back in Issue 21 (pages 20 and 21). #ad

I went to my dealer yesterday for some parts, after ordering a set of M/T Alcoa Challengers and 285 BFGs. Talked with the aftermarket parts salesman who does all the custom wheel/tire stuff. At least on '99's and newer, all you need to provide is the revs per mile of the new tire, and the DRB will now accept that figure and correct the speed. It used to be that the DRB only had the stock tire options, but that is no longer the case. I'll post a follow-up after the tires are installed and speedo corrected.

I have a '98. 5 and two different dealers told me they could only comp. it for a factory tire size (revs. per mi. ). Please keep us posted as to the '99+ Rams. #ad
