Side gears in the carrier need to match the axles-so you're pretty much looking at a carrier change. I'm pretty sure the inner axle seals would have to change to match the new axle shaft OD as well.

Does anyone who has done the '02 right side axle swap have a length for the shaft itself? Curious if there is an off-the-shelf application for a 35 spline of the same count. I guess for that matter, does anyone have the measurement for the short side? I had mine out on Friday to change the wheel joint but like a dumbo I never measured it. I have a D60 35 spline Power-Lok that I wouldn't mind installing up front to get true 4 wheel drive-and I don't really need super-fancy alloy axle shafts-stock 35 spline would do just fine. Dynatrac's locking hub kit looks sweet but I don't really have the time to rob the bank it would take to buy it!

I know one guy changed to 35-splines when he did the DT conversion and he has yet to get it to seal up correctly...

Changed my 70 out to 35 spline Chromoly 4304 and rebuilt the limited slip in the truck with cryo treated side and spider gears. She's holing nicely. Wasn't that expensive either.

Only way I know of to do the outers is to put in the lockout conversion kit. Since our outers have a spline and then a threaded portion on them, I don't know where to source a shaft. The longer one piece passenger side shaft could have seal issues. The length allows some flex. Your right I forgot to say I was changing the carrier too. The 30 spline outers should hold. I know of a mod pulling truck that is running them. Normal 35 spline inners should be ok for our applications. I haven't decided if I wanted to go 4340 for them yet or not.

AFarmer you mean changed your Dana 70 rear end?? I was referring to front axles

I've got a 30 spline Power-Lok kicking around in my pile of goodies as well I believe-but everything I find tells me that the '00-up D60's are 32 spline inner axles-not sure what diameter. I really wish now that I had spent 2 minutes with a caliper and a tape measure when I had the left side one out on the bench changing the U-joint.....

Does anyone know what diameter these oddball 32 spline inners are? Would they be the same diameter and spline pitch as the D70 shafts in the 1st gen diesels? If so maybe I could get a couple side gears from that application's Power-Lok and transplant into one of mine..... still would need the 1 piece '02 right side axle I guess.

What 70 are you referring too? I guess I thought you were talking about the Dana 70 in the rear.

Changed out DANA 70 from 32 spline to 35 spline axles that are made out of a much better/stronger material. That 70 - only one I got. Not that expensive either.

In truck pulling it isn't the axles in the 70 that are weak. It is the ring and pinion. Most of it is caused by hop, or axle twist. The drag racers and dyno guys seem to be ok with the 70's. One of our trucks has broken both of the 35spline axles in his 80.
