Hello all,

I am a second time owner of the new 24v engine. My 1st was a 99 3500 5 speed that I had absolutley no problems with. I decided to trade up to a 2001 3500 recently when the dealer made me a deal i couldnt refuse(not that i was looking).

I did not modify the 99 at all, but the 01 is goin to be a different story. I have been looking at different mods since i had my 99 & I think I have found the fuel managment I might go with. Blue Chip Diesel makes a fuel managment that allows the user ultimate control in 1% incriments. Now I know that may b a tad overkill, but the 1% will allow absolute tuneability around where you finally like the set it. ie. clutch starting to slip... . back off 1% till it stops... .

My question is:

Has anyone used this product? Is it all it claims to be? Is it really overkill? I know it is a bit $$ @ $1300, but it gives you maximum control with one unit. ie. egt, boost, fuel pump management w/ display of each. The other units that are available out there only have up to 5 different preset settings that may be way out of your range with the stock clutch.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated before i spend my hard earned loot.

Thanks

Cole

p. s. this is only the fuel management portion of the mods in question. I am stil planning on modify the clutch, exhaust, injectors, & turbo housing in due time.

I've been using one (a beta - premium) for the past 4 months. It's worked flawlessly and I like the 63 levels of adjustment. The settings to fine tune smoke control have changed in the production unit, so I can't tell you about those - but supposedly better. I made several suggestions to Blue Chip, we'll see if they took me up on them. What I wanted to see was the ability to save 1 or 2 level in memory as it takes the better part of 10 seconds to ramp the level from 1 to 63% and to switch the unit from automatic defueling to "drag race mode", so by then the opportunity to inform the poor misguided PSD/DM owner of their poor choice in trucks ;) has past. Beyond little things like that, it has been great, probably adds about 100HP like the other "hot" fueling boxes. I've not had mine on the dyno, but it reduced my 0-60 times from 7. 4 seconds to 6. 1 seconds all else being the same.

Oh, one more thing. This box uses a large ScotchLok connector that will leave an indelible mark on the fuel solenoid wire on the injection pump and will likely lead to voiding of warranty if that sort of thing matters to you :D

Killer!

Another Tulsa TDR member has the premium one in his truck. Its a great unit!! I think the EGT guage is a little slow and low but other than that its great IMHO. I know he likes it and I imagine he will post on this soon. In his 01 3500 SLT+ quad cab he ran a 15. 41 a few weeks ago, but he also has the EZ box as well. The stock 5-speed clutch holds the power pretty good but not perfect. And WOW that thing smokes when cranked up all the way.

WorkToMuch, The smoke Control on Hiperf360s truck works AWSOME BTW. I can't believe how smooth the power is added.

I kinda wish they made a unit without the gauges in it. That way it could be mounted somewhere more stealth. I really like the look of my Autometer guages as well as there function. Digital numbers flying around drive me nuts.

Andy and I both run these boxes. We recommend them for guys (or ladies) who have not started bombing at all, and want to do it in one shot. The pyro is slow, but I think a different thermocoupler would help that. I agree that It would be nice to have a "Hot" switch so drag race mode is instantaneous. Chip is also working on the scotchlock issue, and should be going public with the fix in a month or so. Briar Hopper ran one of these boxes on the dyno at Muncie, and also ran a TST comp. The Chip box ran slightly hotter. As far as clutch holding power. This depends on if you have a five speed or six, and how much you abuse the truck. My 5 spd held 150+hp for some time before I had problems. It's your choice. All of these companies are great companies, and it's really a matter of budget, and personal taste. No choice will be wrong. Really.
