i am new to diesels and this board.

i have a 2005 3500 sw short bed pickup.

i am looking to change the exhaust.

i do not know what to go with.

i want something louder then stock, louder the better, but i dont want to take the cat off, dont want to lose warrenty.

i was wondering what peoples opinions are

I was looking at banks monster exhaust and the bully dog 4 inch cat back, or the 5 inch bully dog cat back, or a dual exhaust.

my girlfriend wants me to get the banks exhaust, i dont know how any of them sound and dont want to waste the money.

or was wondering if there is a better exhaust system to go with

I don't know much about saving the cat's but it sounds like you need to talk to a guy with experience. Call Rip, he can make it as loud as you want it, one pipe or two :D 1 (866) 211-1533

rips ? sound is good ?

do you know if the banks sound is good ?

is there a big difference between a 5 inch and a 4 inch ?

Sound will be similar with any system. The well made systems are higher quality in such things as ease of installation and nice fit. I like the straight through muffler in my system, loud enough to be heard but not obnoxious and still giving free airflow. Some guys like the straight pipe sound. If you're looking for a lot of noise wiht a deeper tone go with the 5". The loudest system I've ever heard was a mufflerless set of 5" stacks on a 24 valve, that thing would rattle windows under load. Depends what you want. Rip's stuff is the best for the money in my opinion.

I dont want to take the cat off, dont want to lose warrenty.

Taking the cat off will only void the warrernty on the cat. I would go with a 4 inch system unless you plan on having around 450hp and up :D You can lose some low end torque with a 5 inch exhaust unless you have the horsies to back it up :D

Read THIS post from a while back

Oh yeah. . welcome to TDR

thanks alot, i am going to call the dealer today and check up on the cat warrenty, when i got the truck originaly, he made it sound like i void all the warrentys.

going to call tomarrow.

Just take whatever your "DEALER" tells ya' with a grain of salt !! Check around here, all kinds of 'USEFUL" information to be had!! "DEALER" I bought mine from apparently has problems changing a flat tire on a Neon !! Much less fix anything of any importance on my rig. :{ :(

went to the dealer today, he said taking the cat off will not void anything except the 3/36000 on the exhaust.

(bumper to bumper)

where those sound clips cat back ? or not ?

i asked the dealer what he thought of taking the cat off, he said he never heard one wihtout the cat and a straight threw muffler, but he said straight pipe he thought was too loud, is that agreed ?

sorry for all the questions, im kinda going at it blinded, i went from a 99 gasser to the 05 diesel.

cat or no cat is the question now >:\

what does the cat do ?

No cat, straight through muffler. Unless you like noise because the third gens are loud :D The cat is basically a furnace fired by exhaust heat where particulates are trapped from the exhaust and burned. It will provide as much backpressure if not more than your stock muffler. I'd guess any sound bites you'll hear are kitty free ;)

AVNote,

I just got my MBRP system installed with no cat, without the cat you basically hear alot of air coming out along with the muffler noise, its very different sound to my gasser I had, I like it, sounds bad a** to me at idle, if you want it loud, you want get this system, I like it but alot of friends don’t, to me without the cat is sounds more like the big rigs when your taking off WOT. Ill try to download some wave files of it so you can listen to it. This is system quiets at 60 to 68mph then wakes up at 69 to 78 mph then quiets down again from 79 to 89 mph, let’s just say I either had to keep it at 60 to 68mph or 79 to 89mph.

To tell you the truth diesels dont need no cats, and I came from a 98 dodge 1500, welcome, you wont be going back to a gasser Ill tell you that.

I got that aeroturbine with resonator coming to me this Friday though.

AVNote,

this is the link for the aeroturbine. I was not able to download a wave file, if you want to listen to it send me a PM and I can give you a call on my cell phone and let you listen to it while its at idle, then I can try to let you listen to it when I take off. Let me know. ALthough if you listen really closely to the sound clip that mrsnow put on his thread, silverline 1 is what mine sounds like without the cat, you can basically hear they system breath.

Jeepit,

The silverline is the complete systems name, you can also order the system off the same site, check it out, there phone number is located at the bottom of the site.

Also if you guys are considering getting the system get the dual system, silverline is the only system out there right now that I believe makes a dual pipe for 4X2. I unfortunatly didnt know until after I got my single, if I would of known I would have gotten the duals.

i found the mbrp dual stainless for 541. 44, cat back at http://www.xtremediesel.com... local proformance shop has a "cat delete pipe" for i think 80 bucks, would it be better to go with that system and a cat delete pipe, or something else turbo back ?

im still not sure what brand to get, all the wave files somewhat sound the same to me :-\

sound waves just doesnt do it justice, i think i need to just get something and hear it in person.
