Not sure if they have the same internals, but you would have to get a differnt bellhousing to mate up to the cummins. Also you would have to check the input shaft spline to make sure it would work with dodge clutches.

They don't easily interchange. The input shafts, shifters, 4x4 output shafts, tail housings, (not sure about 2wd output and tail housing) are different. The early style GM units even have a different bolt pattern and gear ratios. Some internal parts will interchange.

Thanks. I have a friend that just bought a 1995 Dodge CTD 4 door conversion. They previous owner converted it from an auto to a 5 speed and he is giving him an extra NV 4500 transmission that he said came out of a GM. If it is too much hassel my friend, Oilburner, might just swap me his 5 speed for my auto since he wants an auto. Only problem I see with the swap besides the Drive Shaft differences is that my truck is a 1997 with electronic transmission.

Some of the GM4500's have a larger output shaft... 32spline. They also have a lower 1st of 6. 34:1.

there are actually quite a few differences. Im working on a GM one right now and im surprised how dis-similar it is to our 4500. Just minor things like input/output, etc.

I believe pre-96 chevy 4500's even use a different bolt pattern where it bolts to the bell housing, so that would be hard to make work.

somewhere around 96 or so (maybe a little later) they became very similar to the dodge 4500, 23spline output and all.

Im not sure of the input spline/dia, I will check on the chev one when I get a chance.
