This morning i went to the feed store , parked, bought my feed , got back in the truck and put it in reverse. ABS, Air bag and brake light came on and stayed on while i was backing up . The guy loaded me up and i drove about 50 feet until i was in a spot where i could turn the truck off safely . When i restarted it all the lights went out as they normally do but now i am worried that something is screwed up  I am not a dieselhead like alot of you guys on this site and would appreciate any help or insight you might give. The truck has been running great otherwise . I also went to the truck wash about 40 min before this happened and am thinking maybe water got where it shouldn't ? Thanks in advance, shorty

the problem is probably the connector where the instrument cluster plugs in. See Fritz's website. I forget how I found it. I have the same problem. Every once and a while mybe comes in. Sometimes the speedo drops to zero. Sometimes the odometer says "no bus". I just give it a rap in the plastic face with one nuckel and it oges away. If your truck is new enough they may replace it. If not, I heat they are a thousand bones.

thanks Acoyle I sure hope its something simpler than taking the dashboard apart , but i will check it out It only happened once today, i tried backing up slowly and braking but I couldn't make it do it again. Illflem are you out there ?? any thoughts ?

Water could do it

It may have been the truck wash,or possibly a bad clockspring assy. When the clock spring goes all the lights wil come on. I doubt it is the wire harness as stated above,as I've only seen it on the 98 and up trucks. One other thing to check is the ignition switch and lock cylinder. We has a 96 1500 gasser in last week, and they were sticking and no returning fully back to the run position after starting. ABS,Air bag and brake lights were staying on until you wiggled the switch.

Thanks Chris i will check both of those things. If the clockspring was bad would the lights go out after re-starting and would the problem eventually become more frequent ? I will try wiggling the ignition and see if i can make it happen again or if it does happen again i will see if the ignition movement makes the lights go back out .

It may be an intermittant connection in the clockspring. On the newer truck the clockspring just goes "CRUNCH" and dies, then all the lights comes on. On the older trucks it can sometimes get dirty or have a sticky contact, which clears up and the problem goes away.
