After starting my truck and the red Brake Light and Amber ABS light have done their bulb check thing, as soon as I start rolling the two warning lights reappear and stay on for the duration of that driving period. I checked my shop manual and it says I need a certain diagnostic device called a "Breakout Box 6979" to connect to my "Data Link Connector" located to the right of the steering column. My question is can I just momentarily ground pin thirteen on the DLC with a jumper wire to get a count of the warning light flashes for a diagnostic code or do I need the "Breakout Box 6979" to do this as stated in the shop manual? In other words is cavity thirteen of the "Box" the same as pin thirteen on the CAB data link connector?
