Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) ABS and Brake Light

I was driving back from Austin on 290 yesterday and I looked at my dash and the ABS and the parking brake light were both on. It was raining but the tires never locked up or anything. I cycled the key to check for codes but there were no codes whatsoever. The truck still stops good and everything works like it should. Does anyone know what this could be? Thanks.

I have had that happen twice and it was the sensor on the top of the rear end, but the times mine happened the speedometer started acting funny also.

Is it the speed sensor in the to of the diff? It did throw a p0500 code a while back before this started but it cleared itself. Thanks for the help

Classis speed sensor going bad! It's on top of the rear axle. If you have trouble getting it out of the axle, it's not uncommon for a ring of rust to form around the top of the plastic sensor body and the axle housing.



If the bottom half of the plastic sensor body should break off inside the axle, I have posted a quick way to get it out. Heat up a small allen wrench (red hot) and stick it down inside the broken portion, pushing the red-hot side through the side of the plastic body. Wait a few seconds to allow the allen wrench to cool, then pull the broken piece out with the allen wrench.

Rear wheel speed sensor lcoacted on the top of the rear diff gone bad. $30 or so and easy to change out.

Well I figured out why the lights were on. When the hub assembley screwed up and made that tire loose, it messed up the sensor and triggered the lights. Got it all fixed now. Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll use them in the future I'm sure.
