I was driving the other day and the ABS and Parking brake warning lamps came on, and stayed on for a few minutes. They then seemed to go off by themselves, after which my cruise control wouldn't work  I may have tracked the brake problem down to my manual shutoff cable that was binding against the upper brake pedal arm / lever, which was barely holding the pedal in just enough for the brake lights to stay on while driving. Would this cause both lights to come on and would the lights coming on somehow have dissabled the cruise control?

Thanks for any help,

Stephan

Try to check the small vacume line that runs under the battery box on the drivers side. This happened to me on my 95 when it had about 100,000 miles on it. Happend to my friends 96 with about 70,000 on it. Both times battery acid had dripped on the vacume line causing a pin hole leak. Resulting in just exactly what you described. Good luck & let us know what you find.

I dont know if 1st gens and 2nd gens are similar enough, but my ABS etc lights came on and cruise quit working this spring. ABS stayed on, and the next morning I had a huge puddle of oil under the diff. A tooth on the pinion broke off, got wedged between the "exciter ring" (yes, thats what its called), which creates a magnetic field for the ABS sensor, and the tooth between the ring and diff cover punched a hole in the cover. you might look under there just to make sure thats not the problem, or check the factory manual and see if you even have that exciter ring.

thanks guys, I'll check that out. I went out yesterday and cruise control worked fine and no abs light, so I'm wondering if it was the cable after all (I re-routed it so it didn't rub). I'm still going to check those others things just in case. Better safe than sorry. Thanks again :)
