2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission ABS/Brake Light on=brakes good, Both off=brakes bad

Abs light and brake light came on today after fording small creek. Truck is a 95 with rear anti-lock only. Did some searching and pulled the connector to the rear speed sensor, cleaned and checked with ohmmeter reading 1600. Reconnected sensor and went for a drive. Both lights off but, brakes pulsed like ABS was engaging and would slowly release at full stop. Lights came back on after a few minutes of driving around and brakes began acting normally, hard stopping OK with firm pedal.
