2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission ABS Brake Light

I had some bodywork done on the front of my 95. Replaced fenders, cab corners, rockers etc. Since then the ABS and brake light have been on. My first thought is a bad connection or ground removed during the bodywork but so far we haven’t found it. Occasionally the light goes out for a brief time but no rhyme or reason as to why or when.

Speedometer works fine at low speeds so doesn’t seem like the sensor. Anybody got any other ideas or where else to check??

Disconnect the electrical connector to the low vacuum switch, mounted on the drivers side fenderwell, near the firewall. If your ABS/Brake lights go out this switch is bad or you more than likely have a vacuum leak somewhere.

That’s the ticket! Oo.

I unplugged it and it was off all the way to work this morning. I can see the switch was removed and reinstalled with new bolts on the new inner fender. I wonder if it needs to be grounded to the fender to complete the circuit and its not making contact through the new paint. If not I will check vacuum lines etc. tonight. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

All is well!

I found the problem to be a leaking vacuum line on the cruise control. All is good now and I also located the annoying rattle that was bugging me since the body repair. That was my heat shield for the BHAF.

That was the same problem I had. My cruise control even worked with almost a quarter of the vacuum line rotted away. Unfortunately Brake/ABS light doesn't lead you to believe that theres a vacuum leak. I chased an intermittant problem with these lights for a month before finding the cause. Not many posts on this issue.
