OK guys - I need a reality check. I have an inspection coming up this month and… of course the lights come on. My actron scan tool will not read any abs codes. I pulled the rear axle sensor because today the speedo got squirrelly and won't move until I reach about 30 mph. I cleaned the tone ring sensor, relubed the connectors and reassembled. Benched tested the sensor for 1. 4MΩ continuity. Otherwise the truck drives and stops normally. What's the next step to extinguish the blasted light??

Two solutions

Two solutions:

1. Drive an ice pick through each of the lights on the dash. The wont come back on.

2. Did you replace the rear speed sensor or just check the continuity? Most of the time when those lights come on along with the speedometer acting up a replacement of the rear end speed sensor will correct the problem. It happened to me once, and I know of two others it's happened to and that cured the problem.

Almost always when you get the speedometer issue with the ABS light it's the rear wheel speed sensor that needs replaced. Has been the case for me every time (3 now).

Also you should check the wiring to make sure the connection is good and the wires are not chafed or bare.

Good luck!

Excellent point.

Excellent point Mishkaya. The wiring sometimes will chaffe on the drivers side behind the wheel. I cant remember exactly where, but mine was chaffed there as well. I re-spliced the wires and cleaned it up with some heat shrink. No problems since.

As always thanks for the help guys. It was the sensor and $33 later the problem seems solved (speedo will actually register and maintain 15 mph). I had forgotten that the CAB unit purges the DTC apparently upon startup because once the sensor was installed and I restarted, they went through their usual startup sequence and extinguished! Problem solv'ed!!:D
