I've searched the forums; and my problem is different than that of many of members.

My Brake and ABS lights come on, typically first thing in the morning when cold; however I don't have speedometer problems.

Also, my vacuum is fine.

I've checked the fluid, I also flushed the fluid (speedbleeders).

What to check next, I'm getting ready for a big trip.

Thanks all,

KRS

I think in '96 the speedo was driven off the speed sensor in the transmission. Around '98 Chrysler switched to using the ABS sensor on the rear diff for the speedo. So it's possible that the ABS sensor is hooped or unplugged and the speedometer will work fine. Since it happens at startup I'd check the connector and sensor since there's a short or open circuit. The sensor should measure out at around 1,800 ohms according to another thread (it's actually a hall effect transistor but it'll still have a resistance).

Sorry for the late reply, had a water supply pipe leak under the slab in my house, took a while to figure it out and fix it.

Mine started that last year. I would drive it down the road 40 yards and then they would go out. I thought it was low on vacuum. Hasn't got cold enough here yet to see if still does it.

Today when both lights came on, pulled over and unclipped plastic clip from combination valve. There is a metal rod when the clip comes off. The lights didn't go out.

Back to working on this problem as i have a long trip pending.

KRS check your "vacuum check valve" on brake booster. Also check your RWAL/ABS valves underneath the master cylinder.
