I need some of you guys' expertise. I drove my truck to work this morning. Everything was OK. Cranked it up after work to go home and the ABS and Brake light are on. The brakes feel fine like they always have. What would you guys look for? What might be the problem? What all will turn both of these lights on? It doesn't make sense to me that the lights were not on when I turned the truck off but 8 hrs. later, when I crank it up, they are on. :(

Thanks in advance.

The usual culprit is the speed sensor located on top of the differential. You can try replacing that or have your truck scanned to see what code is set.

Ramboy is correct, the speed sencor is usually the problem. try it first, before those lights make u go crazier. It took me a month to finally change mine, but i'm feeling much better now.

Thanks guys. Is the speed sensor very expensive? Probably a dealer item, isn't it?

What about checking the codes myself? I know with my old, uh, err, cheby (cough, cough), I could cross over 2 of the pins on the plug under the dash and read codes through the check engine light. Can you do something similiar on the Dodge?

Most of the posts that I have read plus a mechanic from a 5* says to just clean the rear sensor. The codes pretty much reset every key turn for the ABS.

AND IT WOULD BE REALLY NICE if you could properly diagnose this without having to go to a dealer because the Dodge tester is $6000. Arrggg!!

cleaned sensor

Thanks for the advice thus far.

I cleaned the rear sensor tonight. No luck. Lights are still on. What would you guys suggest? Go ahead and replace the sensor? Or, is there something else to check?

mreiter, after reading your reply about the speedo jumping from 0 to 20, mine doesn't. It works properly. Does that rule out the rear speed sensor?

Man, I definetely don't want to take it to the stealer. I like working on my own vehicles, but don't know **** about vehicle electronics.

Anybody got any more suggestions?

In your fuze panel under the hood. Check your fuzes. Had the same problems and it was a fuze blown. Good luck.

Harlan:rolleyes:

I just replaced mine last night... my speedometer didn't register below 10 mph. The replacement was $25 from mopar4less.com. I'm glad it was such an easy fix.
