Well I've read a lot of good information on this topic but I am hoping that somebody could recommend what order of troubleshooting I should pursue to fix this.

I've checked the fuses (meter) and metered the rear wheel speed sensor (1. 7k Ohms). The speedometer also register from 0 up. It is possible for the rear wheel speed sensor to meter correctly and still be bad?

Should I check the front speed sensors? Does anybody know what the value should be?

How about the brake pedal switch? What do I check for? Are there any symptoms that I could watch for?

Is there a wire a connection attached to the truck frame on the '02? Can anybody tell me how to find it?

Getting serious about fixing this, but not ready to admin defeat and take it to the dealer... .

Any help will be greatly appreciated :)

TIA,

Bill

Factory manual

You need to get ahold of a factory manual with all the wire diagrams and troubleshooting procedures. There are just too many causes to speculate, plus it seems each year is just a little different. I spent about ten total hours chasing down my problem which turned out to be a connector full of water. $110 for the book was a heck of a bargain compared to the bucks it would have cost to let a "tech" find the problem.

I agree, in fact it was the first thing that I bought. Perhaps I just have not found my way around in the book yet, or I might need to purchase a "set".

Rear Wheel Speed Sensor

... (Short description of how the ABS system works and what the CAB does)...

NOTE: The MDS or DRB III scan tool is used to diagnose the Antilock Brake system. For test procedures refer to the Chassis Diagnostic Manual.

... (Then it instructs me how to remove and install the sensor. )

MDS and DRB III sounds expensive.....

My antique 97 has everything in one book, but I wouldn't be surprised if the newer ones had a set.

As far as the ohm values of the front sensors, try checking each one. If they are the same I'd wager they are OK. If they are different ohms but interchangeable parts, then buy one and you have a 50-50 chance of installing it on the side that needs it.

Devildog,

Do you happen to know whether or not your speedo worked (did not jump from 0 to 20) and/or if the sensor metered to the correct Ohm?

Games,

Thank you, I will check out the front sensors today :)

btw... .

Tried disconnecting the batteries for several hours without success.

the speedO was intermitting but, the idiot lights stayed on. Before I went to the dealer I tried the battery disconnect trick as well. I turned out there was a very small crack in the sensor that I could not see when I was hunting down the problem
