Guy's, On the way home today my abs and brake light came on I still have brake's. There are no code's set that I can tell, any ideas on what this is. Thank's Don

Is your speedometer still working properly? When my light came on the speedo acted up also, the speed sensor in the rear diff had gone out.

I agee with blakers,to a sense. My abs light came on at times when it gets wet from the rain,so I replaced the sensor in the rear axle ,and it has not come on since. I didn't have the problem with the speedo acting strange..... john

Check the brake light switch under the dash. It's actually 2 switches. One for the brake lights and one to cancel the cruise. If the side for the cruise is not closed with your foot off the brake pedal, it will bring up the abs light. If the switch is not faulty, this problem may be resolve with just an adjustment of the switch position.

I had same problem with no codes and both lights on, turned out to be the diesel vacuum control valve located on the drivers side atop the wheel well. The manual I have doesn't mention this valve in the brake system. Replaced it and been working fine ever since.

abs light

hi guys ,

my abs light and park light came on today , whilst towing a heavy trailer , very exciting , still had brakes , went to service station checked all possible things , no luck , on an off chance i checked the fuse box and one of the fuses was blown , changed it and the lights went off , so the trailer must have blown the fuse , have you checked your fuses ? sometimes its the simple things

hope this helps

regards conn

Just did this yesterday.

Few days ago, I had similar symptoms: ABS and Brake lights came on when I started my truck this morning, brakes still worked fine, speedo inoperative under 15 mph.

Got the speed sensor from the dealer ($38), swapped it out, disconnected the batteries for a couple minutes to clear any codes (probably not necessary, but eh... ), started 'er up, and after illuminating for a little longer than normal, the lights went back out, and everything functions normally now.

Very easy fix. Only advice I can offer is that what I thought was one bolt holding it down is actually two. The top one (which holds the clamp to the brake line/wire) is a nut threaded onto the bolt which is threaded on each side. Use a crescent wrench to hold the lower one while you remove the upper nut, then a deep socket to remove the lower. A small screwdriver helps to pop out the sensor. Put the new one in as far as you can push it, ratchet down the bolt, replace the clamp and nut, reconnect the wiring harness.

Maybe a 15 minute job.

Question. Same symptoms, both lights on no speedo under 15-20mph, but my transmission (auto) seems to hang longer before shifting into 2nd. I'm assuming the speed sensor sends some info to the transmission as in when to shift. Is this also on of the symptoms?

I think the post before may have answered my main question, the codes are cleared all by them self, when the lights go out.

If the sensor is only 38 bucks, it's a good gamble besides taking it into the shop. Looks easy enough to replace. Think I'll check all the connections first, also.

BTW, my wife said she thought it would cost a couple of grand for a new transmission, so if I can get out of this for 40 bucks, I can spend the difference on electronics for my boat!! What a deal.

Thanks
