A friend of mine just bought a "97 CTD. He says while driving down the road, the ABS and Brake light comes on. He said that if you shut it off and restart it ,,it will stay off for a few miles and come back on again. Any Ideas? I liked to never talked him into a CTD, now he's having this problem. Any help appreciated. .

I don't know if the later models have this, but on mine there is a vacuum diaphragm on the wheel well that could cause the same symptom. There is an electrical plug on it that tells the lights to come on. It could be a bad hose or diaphragm ?

Mine stays on also then it will go off for awhile then come back on... . it also come on when I put it in 4x4 mode.....

I have the same problem, I had it checked out, turns out they told me it is the ABS module itself, and that is $500. 00 bucks. Well it went this long without it, it will go forever without it.

Vacuum Leak??

Mine is caused by the vacuum solenoid that operates the Pac-Brake. In my situation it just needs to be taken off and cleaned, so based on that it might be possible he has a small leak.
