Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) ABS light?

Here something that happened to me last night. I was following the tractor and wagons back to the farm with my flashers on for warning, running around 15 mph and my ABS light would flash on and right back off again. It did this about 4 times in 3 miles. Any ideas of what may have caused it to do this? I checked codes with the smarty and also turning the key, nothing showed up. My initial thought is it a sensor going out, what are your thoughts.

My brake light and ABS came on some time ago and it ended up being the rear axle speed sensor that caused it.

Yep, very likely that's it. Mine did that when still under warranty.

My ABS light came on this summer also. Turned out to be a front wheel bearing assembly. I also had a smelly brake when it happened, so it was easy to track it down to the front.

also check the harness plug for corosion, it's located under the truck behind the drivers front wheel well. i had the same problem and tried everything and this is what fixed it for me.

Can you tell if your ABS pump is running when the light comes on? Had the same thing happen last year, ABS light would come on with no rhyme or reason until the ABS computer dyed. When the ABS computer crapped out I turned off the key a the ABS pump just kept running. By the way the ABS computer is tied into just every system including the speedo, and would you believe the overhead compass as well. I had to pull the 2 wire power connector on the side of the ABS pump.

Another thing that can caused the ABS light to come on and off is very cold weather. I switched to Valvoline synthetic brake fluid and flushed the entire brake system. This also fixes the hard petal caused when you hit a bump while starting to hit the brakes and the ABS freaks out.
