2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission ABS Light

Ok guys I hope this is in the right place. But on monday afternoon my ABS and BRAKE light came on and stayed on. And wont go off. I checked the brake fluid, power steering fluid, brake pads, rotors. But that is about as far as I know to check. What else am I forgetting? I have good brakes as far as good pressure. No noises at all from front or back brakes. I have no idea what controls the ABS or anything.

Russell-when my truck was new, my ABS light would come on and stay on untill I turned the ig key off and each time I would start the vehicle and drive off after a few minutes the AbS lite would come on. This went on for a long time untill I took it to a dealer and they found that my rear wheel ABS senser was defective and replaced it. Have not had a problem with lite coming on since.

Recalls....

You may want to have the dealer run your VIN # and see if you have any outstanding recalls. One recall is the heater motor burning up some wiring and one of the signs of this is that the ABS light will be on.

May be worth looking into. I haven't done alot of research on this so not sure what year models were on the "role call". Mine was recalled... 1994.

Just a thought.

I have the same problem however, I did replace the sensor and it still comes on,but in my case it seems climatic... rain off,nice temps and dry on etc... ... Rick

well i was hoping maybe it was just weather related. But considering we have had a slew of different weather in KC for 3 days. I am gonna have to say thats not it. I think I will check with a dealer and see what they say. If anyone knows where the "sensors" are let me know. I would rather test them myself rather than let a ssssss dealer mess with it.

There are a lot of different causes for this problem. Mine was a wire bundle connector full of water. You need to do a search.

Had the same problem on my '96..... on the drivers end of the dashboard is the fuse panel. I had the ABS fuse and one other one blown. This happened several times, only when the trailer was hooked up. Finally traced it to the trailer wiring plug at the rear bumper of the truck. Road grime had accumalated in the plug and was causing a short. A good cleaning with an aerisol electrical cleaner about once a year keeps me going now with out the problem.
