2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission ABS Motor Humming & Wont Stop

My ABS light and Brake light are on constantly since this am. I have searched the forums and found alot of info to fix. My problem is, the ABS motor still runs after the truck is shut off. I had to pull the fuse, and both lights are still on. Only one guy had the same problem (ABS motor running in addition to lights), and the thread doesn't give a solution. I show no codes using the key on and off method. I realize the sensor in the differential is the most common cause, but would this have anything to do with the ABS motor running constantly?

I had a 99 silverado that did this exact same thing. My ABS pump malfunctioned and the electonics were telling it to pump nonstop. My truck was 1000 miles out of warranty and the dealer would not pay for it. It was going to be about 1200 dollars to fix. So I just drove without the fuse in for probably 3-4 months and then traded the truck once I fopund what I wanted. I don't know how much the cost will be in a dodge or if you're still in warranty, but either way good luck.

1998 with 150k on it. ABS pump used to rattle a bit at every key-on. This morning the pump came on constantly--until I pulled the fuse.



Wife doesn't like driving with the warning lamps illuminated. I've always hated ABS, now I have a real reason.



The lights will come on now and again on my 95 with 4-wheel ABS, but I've never heard the pump. Been looking for an excuse to rip that stuff out. Maybe now I'll use it for parts to repair hers and get it out of mine.



Has anybody removed the stuff? How do you trick the circuits into turning the lights off?



Any other idears?

Okay, I looked around and found out that it is a very common failure (in other makes) of the ABS computer. There's an outfit in Utah that will reprogram your box for $100. Or you can try junkyard stuff--but it might not work. Dealer fix on a Chevy Silvertado was quoted at $1100. We're probably in the same boat.



I'm going to try some "extras" I have lying about. Then I may send the unit to Utah if they can do a DC module.

If you want to totally lose the ABS and all the headaches of a system that causes cars to take longer to stop this is the best thing to do... .



Romove the pump and lines, make new lines to eliminate the ABS all together.



Pull the ABS bulb out on the dash and done!

Have you actually performed the surgery described? I will on my 95. I don't know if she'll let me on the 98.



I agree---ABS is total JUNK for experienced, high-intensity drivers. Problem is that most cars are sold to Joe (and Joyce) Commuter Without a Clue.

They're on Pacific time, so they weren't open when I called--and I missed his call when he called back. So I don't know if they do the DC stuff or not.



PROBLEM was when I pulled the controller all the way off--we lost speedo and other functions. So there'll have to be some rigging to get all the proper sensor inputs for the 98. Probably not as complicated on the 95.



An ABS story--I went into a wet turn a little hot one night (sporty euro-sedan) and the FREAKING pedal went purrrrrrrrrrrr and I wound up going into the median/curbing. If the fronts had simply LOCKED, then I would have gotten out of them and grabbed the hand brake to bring it around as I got back on the throttle to pull it through--might not have worked, but it wouldn't have been ANY worse. Cracked a $400 wheel that night. No blues all cool.



ABS might be okay for folks that have grown up on it, but I didn't...
