ABS/BRAKE LIGHT

my ABS/BRAKE light came on and my cruse controll did not work, turnd out to be my brake light switch "even though my brake lights worked.

John.

Before you go out and buy a OBD II compliant scan tool such as the Innova or Actron, be aware that they dont read ABS or SRS codes. (At least the one's they sell for $150 dont). I think the $2700 Snap-On's do though.

I was troubleshooting this exact problem when I noticed this post. Make sure you check the magnetic sensor pickup located on the top of the differential. I checked with an ohm meter across the two pins and found an open circuit. It's easy to remove and check. The new sensor will have a nominal reading on the meter because it's a small wire coil. Make sure the replacement is fully seated. Cost about $33. 00 No expensive tools are needed to do the check. I want to Thank everyone for helping find my fix.

:)

Currently my ABS and Brake light illuminates after I start the truck and am going down the road. If I just start the truck and let it idle, it doesnt illuminate. I bought a scanner tool and found out the hard way that they dont read ABS codes from the CAB (Antilock Brake Control). Also, my cruise control in INOP but the speedometer works fine as does the overhead computer and the odometer.

After reading this thread, I've decided that its most likely the auxillary brake pedal contacts that feed into the PCM and the CAB. I'll have to get under the dash tomorrow and take a look at that switch.

I wriggled the connector around a bit this morning, and Voila'! Not ABS light anymore. My bet's are on a lame brake light switch. .
