Today when I started the truck my ABS light and brake light stayed on. I shut the truck off and restarted, the lights still remained on. When I shut the truck off the ABS pump kept on running. I disconnected the big harness on the pump and it shut off. Four hours later I plugged the harness in and the pump started to run again. So I kept the harness unplugged and only the abs light stayed on. The brakes seem OK.

Any recommendations?

Took the truck to the dodge dealer in Bloomington, Il. They told me that it needs a new rear axle speed sensor, a new transmission speed sensor, and a new ABS module (pump). This will cost about $1000. The probability of all three of these components all failing at the same time is probably one in a million. I think this dealer is taking me.

I would say take it to another dealer for a second opinion. It sounds a littel funny that they want that much for two sensors and the pump? The diff sensor is only like $150 or less if I remeber correctly.

Good Luck

Craig

On mine I just had to disconnect the wiring harness from the sensor on the rear axle and apply some silicon dielectric grease to the contacts. I reconnected it and the light has been off ever since. You might want to try this before paying a dealer to do anything.

I'll bet the ABS module is expensive, and the labor probably high being as complexly installed as it is (brake pipe spaghetti!) so the price seems right.

Unfortunately, it does sound whacked-out wanting to run all the time. And, if I'm not wrong, the ABS computer is part of the pump/control module.

I haven't read anywhere that the speed sensors cause a pump to run continuously, just turns the lights on.

As far as the brakes being ok, they probably are. ABS systems default to a "base brake" mode when the Anti-lock part is screwed up. That means you've got basic brakes, with no anti-lock. You want to get it fixed, but you can drive it on basic brakes.
