My ABS light and brake light stay on all the time. My direction signals don't work and when I hit my brakes - no light comes on rear. Not a good thing. I've read some past posts and I think I've narrowed it down to replacing the rear ABS sensor. All I know is that it is located on the rear diff. Can anyone provide me cook book directions on how to replace it. Pictures would be nice but probably asking too much. Also do I have to buy it from Dodge or can I get it cheaper somewhere else.

Thanks a lot.

Frank

If it wasn't for you brake lights and turn signals not working, I would say it's a bad sensor or a bad connection on the lead to the sensor. I don't know why the brake lights and turn signals would be effected by that though.

Does your 97 use a separate speedometer drive on the back of the transmission (or transfer case) like the 95, or does it pick up the speed from the rear end sensor too? If you need a new sensor, I have one here for a 95. It may work.

I agree, it's strange that my direction signals don't operate. I checked all the fuses in the dash and replaced the ones that had blown. But as soon as I started down the road everything quit working. I know there is another fuse box under the hood but I really couldn't determine if there was any blown fuses.

Maybe it's my wiring harness and ABS sensor. Hard to believe, but you never know. I'll buy the sensor you have but I need to make sure that it will fit. It needs to fit the rear sensor since many of the posts always commented that the rear sonsor was the problem.

Oh by the way, how far are you from New Castle and New Wilmington, PA? I lived up there for a number of years. New Wilmington is a small Amish community. I loved living up there until winter started.

Frank

Frank it's for the rear axle and ONLY controls the rear anti-lock brakes. It does NOT transmit the speed to the speedometer. The part number is 04485165, Kit #126221. You can call your Dodge dealer and make sure it will fit yours. Let me know.

Take care,

Blake

will it work for me?

blakers,

i've got a 98. 5. blinkers work etc. check brake and abs light on. are those part nos. good for me as well? i've been putting it off.

thanks

Peter, I kind of doubt it. I think yours is more sophisticated as it gets the speedometer reading off the rear end instead of the transmission output. Am I right on this? I doubt it's the same sensor.

thanks

thanks, blake

i was trying to go the easy (lazy?) route and not have to look it up. i would have appreciated the discount as well. i've got to do it sooner rather than later... . i've let it go too long.

Yes, a '98. 5 takes it off the rear diff. ring. The pickup sensor is located at the top of the differential housing.

Frank, I forgot to answer your question. I'm probably 40 or 50 miles north of New Castle. We have lots of Amish up here too. They're mulitplying like crazy!

Hey Blake. I am off work this week so I will call the local Dodge dealer and find out about the stock number and if it will work on my truck. Hopefully it will. Can someone like me who doesn't know much about these kinds of things replace the ABS sensor?

Other than the winters I really miss living up there. I had a 37 acre farm with all kinds of neat stuff. I leased out 17 acres to a local farmer who planted corn. It was a fun time. I had to leave there when my job moved me to Iowa. Iowa is a great place to be from. Now I live in Columbia, SC and it's great. There is a reason why people come to SC for their vacations.

Anyway I'll get back to you this week.

Frank

Frank, I don't think it's a hard job at all, though I didn't have to do it on mine. Maybe someone else can chime in here, but I think you just unplug it and it should thread out.

We are now looking for some land like you had here.
