2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission AC Change out ?'s

My trucks ac pump has been dead 2 - 2 1/2 years and I just got a new one, finally. What do I need to do to change it out. I know I need to vacum pump the system, get all the old stuff, I am pretty sure the ac core is holding pressure so that shouldn't need to be changed, but beyond that I am not sure what needs to be changed out, never done it before. Someone told me the dryer may need to be changed? Tips and advice will be greatly appreciated.

Definitely need to change the dryer if system has been inoperative that long. Also, pull the fixed orifice tube and check the screen for debris. If your compressor wrecked, you will want to flush the system and maybe consider installing a filter in the liquid line. bg

I was wondering if you know how much the dryers are for the ac, and where to get them ie. dealer only or something else. What is the best way to flush the system and where is the fixed line with the screens that you refered to.

Haven't bought a dryer in a while but they usually run from abouut $25. 00 to $50. 00 depending on vehicle. That would be from aftermarket source, NAPA in my area is ppprobably the best. Call the dealwer and then cal a couple of aftermarket places. (where did you get the new comp? They usually won't guarante a comp. without dryer change) I would pull the fixed orifice first and is it doesn't have trash(metal and teflon particles) in it I would just blow a can of refrigerant through the condenser from the compressor end while the liquid line is removed to check the orifice. The orifice is located in the line where the liquid line ties into the evaporator line at the firewall. The other line will be the return line from the evap. going to the receiver/dryer. If the system is really dirty(lots of debris from comp. failure) the recommended flush is Freon 13, they may have another type flush but it gets complicated.
