i just read the thread from cummnzpower on this and well mine went out on saturday and i use my truck ever day and night so i was wondering how much down time am i going to have fixing this my self i also have the air tools and can get my hands on most what ever tools i need thanks also if i dont fix it soon do i run a chance of it locking up or ruining the compresser :-{}

Its not to bad of a job, about 2-3 hours. Did mine without removing the compressor a few years ago with the help of a friend.

I replaced mine last year. The biggest thing is do not pull against the shaft. The pulley that the belt runs on is on a bearing that fits on the housing of the compressor. The clutch "plate" is mounted on the shaft. It has 3 holes in it that you can screw some bolts into to pull the "plate" off with. I can't remember if they are 1/4-20 or 6mm. There can be several shims under the plate to create the proper gap between the clutch plate and the pully. I can't remember what the gap should be, seems like it was . 020-. 030. The pulley can be removed after you remove a circlip that is under the clutch plate. I bought a cheap pair of snap ring pliers with large tips at the parts house and bent them to get to it. After you remove the snap ring you can pry the pulley off by prying against the compressor housing itself. Once again, do not pull or pry against the compressor shaft.

CAHAMMER:Luckily a mechanic that I know found the clutch for me for around $160 or so. . then $285 with labor. Yeah you can put it on yourself,but usually those type of projects if you're unfamiliar with it, better to have someone who knows do the work,no less lost pride than trying it yourself and scr$wing something up :( . Mine works just like new, so no need for a new compressor. Oh yeah, there's some type of accumulator valve as well, that needs to be changed when you do this,just a heads up. ;) Good luck in the repair,let us know how it goes.
