I just bought 98. 5 4x4 yesterday and the ac was broke when i bought it the front clutch needs to be replaced so i picked up a compresser tonight from auto zone and was going to just use the clutch off the new compessor. But mine has a keyway on the compresser shaft and the new one is slined. Any one run into this problem. Thanks

Sounds like you have two different models of ac compressors.

You'll have to source jsut the replacement clutch... ... it also takes a special puller to remove the clutch from the compressor shaft.

It can be done, I did it on my 96 which is still on the original charge of freon after 9 1/2 years and 173K miles in Houston. Do a search on Google for parts help.

Here are two links that worked for me

If the problem is the bearing in the pulley, the bearing is available. I have the part # in the shop, I bought two of the bearings. They are for a V/W Sanden 709 but all the 709 s I have seen use the same brg. I used one from a Ford add-on unit, which was a 709, to repair the V/W Corrado SD709. The older

V/W s used a 508 which is a different brg. If you send me a message or email (dlaphamsr@gmail.com) I will get you the part # and supplier.
