Gotta leak in the evaporator, and I guess this is not to unexpected. Estimate at dealer is in the neighborhood of 700 dollars to make everthing right again. Question for anyone that been down this road, have you had better luck with aftermarket evaporators and is there any savings getting this done in a specialty shop?

Had mine done last summer. Cost more thatn that about $900. 00. Of course, I am east coast metro NYC. Aftermarket evap should be as good as any. I suspect that DC dosen't make their own.

AC

My concern is buying another OEM evaporator and only having it last for 2 1/2 years. Rather spend the next $700 on something else.

Service writer indicated that these are prone to failure. ?

thanks for the replies,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Just replaced my evaporator myself about a month ago all with instructions found here on the TDR... got the evaporator at RockAuto.com for about $105. Cost to vac and recharge the AC system was almost $100. So total cost was a little over $200 and 5 hours of my time.

Evaporator

My dad had his replaced on his 01 dodge a year ago and it is leaking again so the dealer is going to put in another one they can find any leaks with the uv light under the hood, Thank god for warranty. Oo.

I was caught in the same idea of should I go OEM or aftermarket. I found a Four Seasons Evap for$160 and thought it might be better than the other $100 dollar ones. I found it is made in China and is virtualy identical to the OEM one that when bad. SO, I would just get the cheapest you can find and don't forget a new dryer for about $60 and a flush and charge cost me $180 at the used car place where I bought the truck. No more than $350 tops if you do it your self.
