The AC in my 2000 Ram is just a bit weak so I tried to give it a charge using the "no tools required" can of AC charge I got at NAPA and the fitting is too small to hook up to the low side fitting on my Ram. I checked Car Quest and same thing, the fitting is . 025"- . 030" too small. The Car Quest people were not able to find an adaptor and apologized for not being able to help.

Since the AC is just a bit weak I would like to just try a quick and easy charge rather than take it to an AC mechanic. Everything seems to work fine, clutch engages and cool air comes out but not as cool as it should be. The truck sits all winter and now that it is pushing 10 years old I bet the older seals are just staring to leak a tiny bit.

How can I add a bit of coolant? Are adapters available?

Thanks

Bill

The high side fitting is larger than the low side(the one you charge). It is located closer to the firewall and near the turbo and the recharge connector should snap on with a little pressure. It sounds like you were trying to attach to the high side which is near the battery.

Thanks, you are correct, the fitting near the turbo is smaller. The Haynes book shows a recharge can connected to a fitting near the battery. Maybe that photo is of a gas motor truck?

Thanks again

the low pressure port on the gassers is near the passenger headlight. on the 2nd gen CTDs, its behind the turbo and in my case right in front of the Banks Brake mount so I can barely get the straight adapter onto it.

For those who have not bought a charge hose yet, get one with a 90* fitting, it will make it much easier, even without an exhaust brake installed.
