Have a '97 2500 with factory AC. Have a small leak and traced it to the high side charging connection. Is the charging connection cap supposed to have an "O" ring inside? Also is the charging connection screwed onto the high side line or made into it? Is the schraeder valve core replaceable or part of the connection? If not replaceable or screwed on what do you do to fix a leak - replace the whole line??

Replace the Schrader valve. The cap is like a valve stem cap, just keeps dirt and debris out but does not seal. You could probably find an o-ring that will fit inside the cap to seal enough to hold it a while, but the valve will eventually need replacing. The system will have to be discharged to replace the valve.
