Guys,

Does the ac system of my 97 have an orifice tube in it some where? I just replace the condenser coil and accumulator/dryer and found no tube in the system ant where. I had the compressor and dryer replaced about 4yrs ago. Did those guys leave it out of the system? And yes, I replaced the heater core while I was in the dash.

Yes. You do have an orifice.

From rockauto:

1997 DODGE RAM 2500 PICKUP 5. 9L 359cid L6 DIESEL MFI Turbo (D) : Heat & Air Conditioning : A/C Orifice Tube Price Core Total

FOUR SEASONS Part # 56828

Liquid Line w/ Orifice Tube

However, in their infinite wisdom, Dodge made the orifice a 1 piece assembly with the liquid line between the condenser and evaporator. You can buy one such as the part from RockAuto that I posted abouve, or you can buy a repair kit from the parts store that allows you to cut the line and splice in a new orifice.

Look along the passenger side fender behind the factory airbox. There should be an A/C line wrapped in foil insulation. If you take that line loose (using a special disconnect tool) the orifice is inside of it.

my 97 gasser has an orifice tube that could easily be replaced with the system discharged. its located right at the fitting to the condenser (on the condenser side) on the tube that goes into the bottom of the condenser. its just a little cone shaped screen.
