Holy smoke! What a mess! I changed out the evaporator in my old Isuzu diesel P'up. Never again I said. When my '95 Dodge/Cummins started to leak down, ah what the heck, I wanted a new truck anyhow... Then my '98 started to leak at 74k miles. I paid $780 to have the Dodge boys change out the evaporator and expansion valve. I hated to spend the money but by the looks of it, I saved myself some frustration. They have all the tools and experience. I work on elevators for a living. They work on trucks. That's good enough for me.

I'm not sure what your asking. When the clutch engages, it allows the compressor to run.

My symtoms were: It was running fine after I had it filled for about 2 weeks. Then one Sunday it worked great, frigid air, Monday it was cycling about every 10-15 seconds not blowing cold air at all. I figure it would eventually leak out completely and you wouldn't have enough pressure at the sensors to engage the clutch at all.

With my truck spending most of it's life on dirt roads I am afraid this is in my future.



I will pull the blower moter and see what I find up there.

That was ugly. I will be buying a filter ASAP. That's not the kind of work I want to be doing to my truck.

On Genos filters ,do they need to removed and cleaned .

Right when I think it's clear sailing after the KDP got tabbed

here comes another little dilema. Is this related to accessive dirt roads and leaves or is this a common problem?

Dunno. I've had mine on for quite a while (at least 50K miles, maybe even 75K or 100K). I've never taken them off to look. I suppose I should, one of these days.

Geno's filter

Any of you using Geno's cab fresh filter system living in climates where it snows, etc. I'm wondering do the filters get plugged with snow and ice, starving the blower motor of air and thus little or no air for defrost, etc.

I used mine for 3 years or so in No. IL. Never had problems with icing or snow.

Does the cab fresh filter cause any problems with the windshield washer spray pattern or wiper blades "skipping" at highway speeds?

Will it restrict a Scotty air intake?

I have never cleaned mine and they have never iced or snowed over enough that a brush wouldn't clear them before departure. They don't interfere with the wipers nor the squirters.



I can only guess that they might slightly restrict the intake air for the Scotty, especially if you use fresh air instead of recirculated air when using your a/c



I use recirculated air most of the time, so maybe that's why I haven't had to clean mine yet. Besides, I live in a relatively dust free area. Leaves that happen to collect on the filter blow off when I drive.

This thread is why I NEVER park under trees, (well almost never) but expecially trees with small leaves. Another problem with leaves collecting in odd places on the truck is that after a rain they take FOREVER to dry out, and in that time the moisture held against metal surfaces will rust like heck.

Washer spray pattern is not affected.

The standard 'directional' wiper blades I have (Anco) only skip sometimes at highway speeds when I'm driving into a hefty headwind. But that may be caused more by the bug deflectors (3 piece) than the filter, which I believe is below the slipstream coming off the hood. See the attached picture (with hood closed).

Winter blades are a different story. When I use them, I've found a 19" is OK on the passenger side, but a 17" is needed on the driver's side to minimize skipping. I might even try a 16" sometime. Of course, since I've been down here in VA, I've only needed winter blades when I head up to snow country in winter.

Cab Fresh Air Filter Ass'y

Genos has them.

The two units mount in place over your cowel inlets. The insert filter medium pads are placed inside the black plastic moulded housings. The filters are black impregnated carbon pile and white synthetic medium bonded togather sandwich fashion. When you wash your vehical in a normal way the filter is rinsed clear each time. I purchased an additional filter replacement pack, however it will be an extended period before I need to replace the original medium due to the design and the "rinse clean in place feature".

This ass'y mounted in place properly will prevent this catastrophic event hands down.

My installation time was 20 min. IMHO it's well worth it.

illflem; the filter medium its self is not that dense so I can't see where volume air flow would be compromised in any way. Heavy snow build up would be a valid concern.

I did not realize it takes two units. Does the filter kit from Geno's come with both or do you have to order two kits?
