Anyone have any thoughts about the best way to accelerate from a stop with automatic transmission when towing a 10,000 lb 5th wheel RV. What rpm should be used for the start-up process that will be the best for the stock transmission?

I've always had mixed results with my truck when towing. Sometimes I can get on the gas and it takes off... other times it is sorta like the torque converter is slipping and it really takes it some time to get moving. I hate starting on real steep hills with it.

Any idea why sometimes it flies off the line and other times it is sluggish? I guess I should call Bill back.

You are better off getting pretty heavy in the throttle to get your trailer up to speed. You are wasting fuel and heating the transmission up more than necessary by getting up to speed slowly. Also the chances for something slipping in the transmission are more with light throttle. My recommendations are for 300 HP and less BTW, more than that and all bets are off.

CJ, I would bet that you are getting an occaisional second gear start. If it is starting in first you should be able to take off with no problem once you get some boost on it, second gear will labor off the line. Call Bill, he will get you fixed up.
