I would think you need to use the cable that is correct for your engine. The cable for the truck you have is correct for that model diesel engine. If the throttle pedal/lever is different enough from the original truck the engine came out of it may not work. You may have to have one made. There's a place here in Nashville that makes custom cables primarily for motorcycles that can normally take your original cable and the cable for your truck and make one to work. I'm sure there are other places like this across the country.
I used the 12V cable correct for my engine in my '98.5 but the throttle pedal/lever were basically the same between my '95 and the '98.5.
I will look at my gen 1 cable. I know in my crew cab i need to use a gen 2 cable for the 94 engine in it
So i'm thinking for this ,98 id need a early 98 down cable
If any one has one cheap let me know i going though the big D and i don't mean Dallas and its ugly and money is tight
