You shouldn't feel that it's noticeable. There are cables which stretch, fray, and eventually can break that operate your throttle. This was the subject of a safety recall in the 1990s, recall #970 which you can read about amongst all the other recalls and TSBs (technical service bulletins) having to do with your truck and others. I noticed the slack in the throttle cable too. I got a new one when the recall went out and the new one still had slack.
This is what I did to fix it. I got a pencil sized split fishing sinker. I drilled a small hole through the center so when I crimped it to the cable it would'nt fray/crush the cable. I positioned it between the brass stop at the end of the cable and the plastic spring seat All at the pedal end.
This took out the excess cable. You lose a MILE of throttle travel with the extra cable.
Since you have an auto truck I'm not sure if this would screw up the TPS or not.
