Accessing The DTC Codes

I have a 2001. 5 24-valve, 5-speed M/T. Ordered the factory service manual, but they only sent the first volume, and are back-ordered on the second book, which, of course, has the "how-to" on obtaining the DTC codes. What's the trick to reading? OnceI get them out (if any) I'll go to that web site that another member provided and get the reading. Thanks!

I don't even think they tell you "how to" in the manual, they assume you have the DSB scan tool.



To access them without a scantool, turn on the ignition (not starting the truck), turn off, turn on, turn off, turn on... leaving it on on the 3rd time. Watch your odometer, if no codes are present it will say P-DONE. It might take you a couple of trys to get the timing down..... but don't give up. The trouble codes are also listed in the back of the big orange book.



Just curious - on the manual you got is the first volume (big orange one) say 2000 across the top? Just trying to establish if the same manual is being used..... since you have a 01. 5
