At least for pre ULSD requirements, Off road diesel and #2 diesel are the exact same product, with the exception of a color dye added; The red dye is added to make it so highway patrol and tax collectors can easily determine if you are running off road diesel in your truck, thus avoiding paying road taxes.
Here in California, since diesel hit over $3. 50/gallon about 18 months ago, the CHP started doing random hit roadblocks, pulling over ALL P/U trucks, and then checking the tanks of the diesel P/U's for dye with a white dipstick. Minimum $10k fine, with MUCH more possible.
In short, there will be no problems for your 2004. 5 CTD; only your wallet if you happen to get caught before you clear it out by driving enough with clear #2, which is possible, but unlikely.
