Found this while doing the service....so now I get to drop the valve body and check them all.
The screw was actually backed all the way out - the only thing keeping it from falling out was the trans case.

Just an FYI, something else to look for when 'yer in there.

It definitely doesn't give me the warm and fuzzies! Those cover plates tend to be a weak spot on rigs running higher line pressures. Hopefully this was just a fluke....

I think I was not too far from having some real problems. The rest of the screws were snug, but nowhere near 70 in lb snug. Yikes.

The connector was a bit of a chinese finger trap until I figured it out. Simple to see and understand once it is apart and on the bench, not so much when your looking at it upside down :D:D

How many miles are on the truck? I know valve body issues (accumulator plate particularly) have been the failing of many a 48re / 68rfe transmission. I’m wondering if that’s why they go bad.

126k miles. Truck shifted fine and gave no symptoms that something was off. It just happened to be that time....kind of unnerving to say the least.

And yes I agree, many problems seem to stem from the VB in one way or another. It is back together for now but this has me thinking about an upgraded unit, if nothing else for self preservation...
