I met a Gentleman today that made me laugh when he said, @ every OIL CHANGE uses 1 pint of Acetone for a few miles B4 he drains the oil? Huh? I searched for hours on old threads and unable to locate anything to enforce it.

Has anyone ever heard that B4, He also claims cuz of that he has 500K on the 95 12'er

i dont see why he would need that in his oil, lol i use acetone to cleanup oil spills sometimes, hopes he likes his mains nice and scratched?? if he changes his oil frequnetly, the detergents in the oil should keep things nice and clean in the engine.

A common problem on farm tractors in the area I live is coolant in the base of the tractor. (coolant in oil) This situation leaves a nice white milky situation all over everything. These tractors are used in cherry harvest and need to be back up and running asap. What I have done to cure this is an IN-FRAME over haul, and used a 25/75 diesel oil mix. this cleans all water, sludge, garbage out of the new set up. We change the oil after about a hour of break in. Check everything over, never had a problem after about 50 JD and Case in-frames.

I agree... NO acetone. I use diesel fuel in a diesel engine to clean water out of crankcase, head and other areas where water is and it should NOT be. I also never run the engine longer than one hour. After that break-in, good fresh oil and filter ad let in run for a while onger beore I ship it.

There was an experiment about a year or so ago with aceton in the fuel. Supposidly it gave better mileage. Several people tried it, including myself along with a couple of engineers I know. We wanted to see if it would work or not We proved that it does not work with over 12,000 miles between. Don't put into your oil. It is a solvent and you stand a good chance of ruining your engine. If you use a good oil and change at regular intervals, there will be no sludge build up.

Acetone in the fuel or the oil is a scam ;)

Wonder what's in those products like "motor flush" or whatever it's called? You're supposed to add it to the oil just before an oil change.

I've always suspected it was diesel fuel and a few ounces of solvent. Maybe this is where the acetone thing got started.

That's not what I was referring to. The engine flushes I've seen say to pour it in, run the engine for 15 minutes, dump the oil, change filter and go.

Auto RX is a new one for me. Doesn't look like anything I want to add to my oil.

Mike

I have seen those before and they smell like lacquer thinner lol.

On the acetone in the fuel. I tried it with my jeep and got a small maybe 1mpg gain. If you add to much it really goes down, I got tired of messing with it so I quit using it.

Every engine I've had either had Delvac or Delo in it depending on where I lived at the time. (Delo is harder to find in the midwest)

I've never put anything else in them (the engines) and I guarantee you cannot find sludge or dirt anyplace in them.

There are some rules however:

1) Do not run oil past it's change time

2) Never mix oil brands (don't care what they say)

3) Pick your favorite brand and stick with it

4) Never shut off a cold engine

5)
