Acoustical damping sheets (Dynamat)

Just finished lining the rear cab wall with some acoustical damping sheeting from http://www.mcmaster.com/ (do a search on "acoustical damping sheet") The Viscoelastic is the same as Dynamat but way cheaper. I used the Hi-Temp Mastic cause I'm a cheap skate



The audio shops should be whipped for charging so much for this stuff when it's really cheap if you know where to get it...



Now it's time to install the two 10" Madisound "Sledgehammer" subs behind the seat http://www.madisound.com/

that is super cheap!! and now for the important part: how is the difference? will you be putting on 2 layers, or will the 1 layer be enough? For the money they are getting, even I can line my cab!

How effective is the mastic base sheeting. Does i stop road noise, exhaust, or the cummings ping. It sure price right, I use to work as a superident in sound for insulation contractor, the lead they sell might quite effect as is the some ceramic mating, but considerable more pricey. Looking to quite the cummings.

Quieting the Cummins

JBlock, here is what I have done to quiet the Cummins:



First I made a foam blanket for the valve cover. the foam is 1" thick, and very dense. I made two sides, cut to fit over and around the injector lines, and the heater hose, and a short front piece.

Over the top of this a long 8. 5" wide piece that starts at the front of the valve cover, and extends several inches down the back of the cylinder block. Wrap a long bungie cord around the circumfrence to hold the sides all together, and a couple of short ones over the top.



For the oil pan, a thinner 1/2" foam sheet starting at the front of the oil pan, squeezed between the pan and X-member, then back and down the front of the oil sump. Wrap a piece of thicker foam all the way around the oil sump, and hold all in place with bungie cords.



I also glued in place foam pieces on every bare spot on the firewall, and found many loose grommets in the process. [Thanks Dodge!]



The blankets are not at all attractive to look at, but the noise reduction is very noticable.



I can use drive thrus now without turning off the engine!!
